Hi all –

I have revamped my website in an attempt to motivate myself to write more blog posts and have a more consistent web presence (shout out to my brother Ted for his excellent tech support). Along with this revamping came another smaller metaphysical revamping (i.e. existential crisis) of who I would strive to be online and what I would want to say.

Many websites and online personas come up with a super laser focus meant to appeal to a specific set of people and by doing so, develop a small but loyal readership. They also set up a blog under a relevant but catchy URL and if you want to find their name, you have to click through at least one post or find their buried “About Me” page (if they have one).

I HAVE NOT DONE THIS. My name is in the URL, on the main page, and on every blog post. This is not because I am in love with myself (quite the contrary) but someone told me you can’t run a successful blog with your name in it and I WANTED TO PROVE THEM WRONG SO I WENT OVERBOARD AND PUT MY NAME ON EVERYTHING.

On a more practical note, many professional writers suggest having a personal website to showcase your writing and since websites cost money, this is it, folks. I figured I would write about what was on my mind, if anything in order to unburden my mother, who has been the very patient but fatigued recipient of these thought bombs. (And other family, and coworkers, and friends, but sorry Dad, Mom gets the gold medal on this one).

For the new blog direction, I came up with these four categories:

“Critical” Reading – Biweekly post where I analyze and critique  an article, a movie, an internet comment, or something Donald Trump said.

Writing  – Weekly post with my latest thoughts on writing and updates on my projects.

How to Adult – Biweekly post on something I learned as an “Adult” and what I found to be helpful.

Smorgasbord – Whatever doesn’t fit into the previous three categories (a.k.a. the copout category).

Feel free to comment and/or argue with me. It will also make me feel less like I’m shouting into an endless vacuum.

Happy reading, folks!
